From the Bench with Francis: New Video

Today we are sharing a great video from UC Berkley. In this video you'll see Dr. Francis Smith, who has been writing a column for our blog, From the Beck with Francis, and is the author of a beautiful foreword for our new special edition Wonder book. The video also features UC Berkeley researcher Michael Rape discussing his work on the mechanisms behind Treacher Collins Syndrome, and then speaking with Dr. Francis Smith, a researcher and person with Treacher Collins Syndrome.

Francis, you are certainly a bright light in our CCA community.

  1. I first met Francis at a CCA Retreat in 2012, and was astonished by his accomplishments and aspirations. He's a remarkable role model and researcher who is bringing important awareness to the public about the ramifications of living with Treacher Collins Syndrome , as well as conducting research to find the cause of Treacher Collins. Many thanks to Dr. Rape for his important research and for sharing this interview with Dr. Francis Smith. Interviews like this one help to dispel the false myths associated with facial differences, and demonstrate that individuals with facial differences and craniofacial conditions posses the same potential, talents and abilities as anyone else. Often, like Francis, individuals with facial differences are exceptional in their field of work.
